Hello volunteers, and welcome to the CAPK Food Bank!
We are so excited to have y'all join us for our Hunger Action Month Box Building Day. Together, we'll be preparing food boxes that will help feed thousands of our neighbors throughout Kern County, and we are beyond grateful for your willingness to spend your Saturday serving alongside us!
Event Shifts
To host as many volunteers as possible, we will be offering two volunteer shifts:
Morning Shift: 8:00 AM – 11:00 AM
Afternoon Shift: 1:00 PM – 4:00 PM
Please plan to arrive 15 minutes before your scheduled shift so we have plenty of time to get everyone checked in and ready to serve.
Sign Up Ahead of Time
Registration ahead of time is strongly encouraged, as space is limited for each shift.
Signing up online ahead of time makes check-in quick and easy! If you need a step-by-step registration guide or if you need assistance registering, please contact our Volunteer Coordinator, Ashley Padron at apadron@capk.org.
Check-In Location
All volunteers will check in at our side gate.
Our volunteer team will be there to greet you, check you in, answer any questions, and direct you to your volunteer station.
What You'll Be Doing
This year's event will feature multiple volunteer stations working together assembly-line style to maximize our impact! Depending on where you're needed, you may help with:
- Building food boxes
- Sorting food products
- Quality checking (QC) completed boxes
- Supporting other warehouse activities as needed
We'll provide instructions at each station, so no experience is necessary - just bring your enthusiasm and a servant's heart!
What to Wear
For everyone's safety:
- Closed-toe, non-slip shoes are required.
- Please do not wear Crocs or UGGs, as they create slip and trip hazards in our warehouse.
- Comfortable clothing is recommended since you'll be on your feet and moving throughout the shift.
- Knee-High Length Shorts are permitted if the weather will be 80 degrees or warmer
Got Gloves?
Bring them if you've got them!
Many volunteers find work gloves helpful when breaking down cardboard, moving boxes, and sorting products. While they're not required, they're definitely encouraged.
Finding Us
We are located at:
1807 Feliz Drive, Bakersfield, CA
Google and Apple Maps occasionally send visitors on a little side quest to the back of our warehouse or another part of the neighborhood. To help you arrive at the correct entrance, follow these directions:
- Take Exit 24 to merge onto CA-58 toward Mojave.
- Take Exit 113 for Martin Luther King Blvd South.
- Take the second left onto E. Belle Terrace.
- Continue to the end of E. Belle Terrace and follow the curve to the left.
- The Food Bank will be on the right-hand side of the road.
Please note: If you accidentally arrive at the back of our warehouse, you'll need to drive around to the front. Our back gate is reserved for delivery trucks and will not be open for volunteer entry.
Please reach out to Ashley in case you'd like an emailed copy of our map to help make finding us as smooth as butter!
Thank You!
Every month, the CAPK Food Bank distributes more than 2 million pounds of food throughout Kern County. Events like this are only possible because neighbors like you choose to show up and serve. So thank you for helping us make a difference during Hunger Action Month. We can't wait to work alongside you!
If you have any questions, please don't hesitate to reach out to Ashley and we're happy to help make sure you have everything you need for a wonderful volunteer experience.
